Tommy in Sweden

Last week I got the opportunity again to visit our friends Pelle and Lena from Kon-Tiki Smögen in Sweden. New for Kon-Tiki this year is they have moved to a brand new dive center located right at the water. Everything what you need is there including the Sauna to warm up after a day of diving. I visit them in their old shop last year and did some diving in wetsuit with weather that was as wet as it was in the ocean.

This year Janne Hårde, some of you might remember him as Lion King the first time he visit us in Puerto Galera with his hair in Lion King style, lended me his Waterproof Draco drysuit that fit me perfect. That together with great weather with sunny days and not much wind made the diving experience very pleasant.

Days like this the diving in Smögen is great even for a tropical diver like me with Lobsters, plenty of Crabs (some big, was thinking of Chilli Crabs at Boat Quay in Singapore), plenty of fish of different kind. Some big schools of at least hundred of a fish that I don't know the name of. On two dives I come across sheer walls that was full of "Camoflage Crabs", this creatures looks like the wall behind them and they don't like to move so its very hard to see them. However we you manage to spot the first one and start to look carefuly they are all over the wall. On the picture I have 5 of them right next to my head, also seen on the pictures is a Sea Urchin. Other walls were covered with soft corals called Dead Mans Hand and shallow water offered plenty of weed and kelp like plants.

If you are in Sweden during summer time I can really recommend you to visit Smögen for a few dives. Of the 6 dives I got in during my 3 days there all had something special to offer and I'm very glad I got them all in. In additional so do they run the Smögen Hash House Harriers run on Sunday evenings over the cliffs that form the island Smögen, well worth the effort.
